Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a dental procedure that removes the damaged or infected nerve (dental pulp) from a tooth. It is often necessary when trauma or decay affects the tooth’s nerve, and it serves as an effective alternative to extraction.
The cost of RCT varies depending on the number of canals in the tooth, which can range from one to four. An assessment is required to provide an accurate quote.
What Happens During Root Canal Treatment?
The procedure is usually completed over three visits, aiming to remove all infected or inflamed tissue and restore the tooth’s function.
• Accessing the Tooth – Your dentist creates a small opening in the tooth to reach the pulp chamber.
• Removing the Infection – The damaged pulp is removed, and the root canals are cleaned, irrigated, and medicated.
• Temporary Protection – A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth between visits.
• Shaping & Sealing – The root canals are further cleaned, shaped with fine dental instruments, and permanently sealed.
• Monitoring the Tooth – The tooth is observed for up to six months to ensure successful healing.
• Final Restoration – A crown is placed to protect the tooth, as it becomes more brittle without a blood supply and is prone to fractures.
